About Dr. Samuel Berger, MD

Samuel Berger, MD, FACS, is a Board-Certified ophthalmologist serving the Rockland community since 2009. After completing his undergraduate degree with honors in Neuroscience at Columbia University in New York, he received his medical degree (MD) from Rush Medical College in Chicago and completed a medical internship at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, DC.

After his medical training, Dr. Berger was awarded a research fellowship grant in the Department of Ophthalmology and Neurology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine; he investigated the effects of chemical mediators on nerve injury in the eye, publishing a scientific paper and presented his findings at medical conferences. Subsequently he completed a residency in Ophthalmology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Medical Center during which he was chosen as Chief Resident. He joined the physicians at Ophthalmic Consultants of Rockland after completing a Cornea, Anterior Segment, and Refractive Surgery Fellowship in Long Island, NY, under world-renowned cataract and refractive surgeon Dr. Eric Donnenfeld and Dr. Henry Perry. Dr. Berger is consistently named a Top Doctor by the Hudson Valley Magazine as well as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor since 2021.

Dr. Berger has performed thousands of sutureless cataract procedures utilizing advanced surgical techniques with standard and advanced technology lenses that can provide a broader range of near and distance vision and correct astigmatism. Additional areas of expertise include corneal and complex dry eye disease, sutureless pterygium surgery with amniotic membrane grafts, medical and laser treatment of glaucoma, and comprehensive eye exams for patients of all ages.
